bernie machen innovation squareInnovation Square is a large-scale development designed to promote the development of new high-tech companies based on UF research. Innovation Square is located on Southwest Second Avenue between the UF campus and downtown Gainesville. The 10-plus-year project is described as “a game-changer” for the entire community.

Innovation Square is a focus for entrepreneurial creativity and technology development. Often referred to as a business “super-incubator”, Innovation Square provides the perfect ecosystem for startups and established companies looking to grow in an active atmosphere. Companies have the opportunity to rent office space in an area where they will be surrounded by the resources, technology and support to successfully create new businesses, develop and commercialize it.

Innovation Square will allow technologies to be developed both from inside and outside the University. Companies will be recruited from around the country to locate at Innovation Square, venture capitalists will want to be part of the project and startup companies will blossom alongside larger counterparts capitalizing off of the world-class research, technology, and talent emanating from UF. Innovation Square will include retail space, restaurants and local businesses, as well as residential space for people to live. Upon completion, Innovation Square will consist of more than 5 million square feet of space on 40 acres. Additionally, Innovation Square will advance Gainesville's economy. The project is expected to provide 3,000 creative-class jobs.
